India Post could become a  vibrant  (exciting)  bank
Rana kapoor
NEW DELHI: Early introduction of Goods and Services Tax and Direct Taxes Code will help revive the sagging economic growth which declined to a decade low of 5 per cent last fiscal, newly elected Assocham (The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India)  President Rana Kapoor said.

"GST alone can increase India's
GDP by 0.9 per cent to 1.7 per cent in the medium term and between USD 325 billion and USD 637 billion in the long-term. It can significantly boost the country's economy," Kapoor told reporters here.

"The government should utilise the cash surplus of PSUs to boost investment. The surplus funds, which can be invested for capex, are estimated at Rs 2.8 lakh crore. Assocham would also work with the government on enhancing investment in urban infrastructure to sustain growth," he said.
On new bank licenses, Kapoor, who is also CEO and MD of Yes Bank, said there is definitely a need for more banking services in the country, either from existing players or from new entrants. He further said that India Post could become a vibrant bank by using the existing infrastructure of the postal department.

Department of Posts (DoP), the government-operated postal system of India, has chosen SAP*** solutions :-
(***SAP is the market and technology leader in business management software)

INDIA: The letter that travels to our door may have new technology stamped all over. As the backbone of India's communication for over 150 years, the DoP plays a crucial role in the socioeconomic development of the nation. Urbanization, increased demand for financial services and increased funding by the government for the weaker sections and the rural sector have opened up new opportunities for the DoP and necessitated the development of new processes as well as supporting technology.
SAP AG announced that the Department of Posts (DoP), the government-operated postal system of India, has chosen SAP solutions to strengthen responsiveness and reliability across more than 155,000 post offices.
With this implementation, the DoP aims to deliver faster and more efficient services to the citizens and government and private organizations of India. The DoP is now one of more than 30 postal customers globally that have chosen SAP solutions to make mission-critical and customer-facing processes more effective, as shared in the announcement.
"SAP postal services customers are leveraging the latest technology to transform their business, from improving efficiency in back-office and core processes to creating new lines of operations within their existing infrastructure," said Hans G. Landgraf, head of Business Segment Postal, SAP AG. "With our experience, SAP is eager to help India's Department of Posts improve its business and increase transparency across its organization in order to meet the changing demands of its customers."
Armed with a transformation charter that includes a complete overhaul of operations under an IT modernization project, the DoP will leverage SAP applications that include SAP ERP, SAP Customer Relationship Management (SAP CRM) and SAP Supply Chain Management (SAP SCM) to help increase process efficiencies and meet its business, social and financial inclusion goals. As the DoP generates revenue of more than EUR1.1 billion while employing nearly 474,000 employees, it will also implement SAP solutions for streamlining internal processes in the areas of human resources, payroll processing and finance and accounts.
In addition to running core and back-office operations, SAP Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise, SAP Sybase IQ software, SAP BusinessObjectsTM solutions and SAP Data Services software will offer the DoP the data warehousing and business intelligence (BI) needed for its entire operations system.
The Government of India also intends to utilize the DoP's vast network for its direct cash transfer function, which aims to reduce leakages, cut down corruption, eliminate middlemen, target beneficiaries better and speed up transfer of benefits to eligible individuals. Workers across India, especially those in rural areas, will be able to reap the gains from the direct benefits transfer (DBT) leveraging their existing savings accounts in post offices.
Today, the DoP delivers more than six billion articles every year through its elaborate network of offices. The reengineering of business process using SAP solutions will enable the DoP to increase its engagement with the Indian population through more customer interaction channels. SAP software purportedly will help the organization improve automation of core processes including postal counter automation, track and trace, logistics post, e-commerce and customer interaction channel.//www.ciol.com/dated wed, July 24,2013//

e-POST is the replacement of Telegram:-
PATNA: During the countdown to the winding up of telegraph service in the middle of July, India Post launched a hi-tech and modern e-post service which, though similar to the telegraph service, goes with the generation Y-style.

The service was launched in the last week of April. In the last two months since its launch,
Bihar postal department has send over 4,000 individual retail e-posts and more than 6,000 bulk e-posts for corporate houses.

"E-post is the replacement of telegram but in a more modern way. Similar to telegram, the message would travel from the sending post office to recipient post office electronically and from the recipient post office, the postman would deliver the e-post to the addressee. With e-post it is possible to send post anywhere across the world," said Anil Kumar, marketing director, India Post, Bihar.
Indeed, there will be some major differences between the erstwhile telegram service and the e-post service. For telegrams, one had to shell out money for every word, but in e-post the customer is given an A-4 size paper which one can use in any way one wants. One can write on it in any language, any font and size, and can also attach photographs to it. The cost of this one A-4 page is just Rs 10. "The customer can send any message on this page or a picture in just Rs 10, which was never possible with the telegram," said Kumar.

Those sending bulk e-post have to shell out just Rs 6 for each page. Sending a single A-4 page message to more than 50 destinations would be categorized under the bulk category.

Those who do not wish to go to post office every time they have to send e-post, can buy an e-post card and can login to India post website www.indiapost.gov.in, where, after going to the e-post zone and giving their e-post card number, they would be able to send their e-post to the desired post office which would further forward the message to the addressee. The e-post cards are available in the price bracket of Rs 100 to Rs 5,000. However the e-post cards cannot be recharged, once your e-post is exhausted you have to buy a new one.

An e-post is an accountable article, so the sender can track it on India Post website. Out of the total 9,641 post offices in the state, 1,046 would provide this service. "This is part of our aim to connect urban and rural people through a digital device," said Kumar.
