How many are   Recognizing on  Retirement Day:-
Are bosses are recognizing really?  Frankly saying  most of them retiring calmly without any recognizing on the day of  retirement even serving for more decades.  Those who are active in unions/ associations are felicitating by union leaders. In some divisions the Divisional heads are arranging felicitation function on every month at DO by garlanding retired officials during that month recognizing with memento and handover the copies of DCRG / EL encashment etc. And the participants have a great opportunity to listen the changes in post office through the mouth of the retired people. No doubt they feel happy on that day and remember the day of retirement for ever This practice has been going under many divisions under Vijayawada region (A.P circle) .
As  a  Postmaster you recognize your retiring staff with a letter:- a draft letter for you:-

India Post diversifies to cope with changing times :

Chennai: With major postal services in the world phasing out door-to-door delivery of mail, the top brass of the postal department has said the future of India Post lay with parcel delivery services.
Australia’s postal service, for example, has more parcel deliveries than mail. In the same manner, if our e-commerce picks up, most of the people will make use of India Post (IP) since we are the only players to have the widest possible network, and IP will still have a chance to stay alive,” said Mervin Alexander, post master general, Chennai circle.

The department is, however, constantly engaging with people through its philatelic activities and special initiatives, like ‘My Stamp’, of which it has sold over 5,000 models. “We are aware of the fact that letters will start to dwindle in the coming decades. However, we have already started to diversify our services. We are going to introduce core banking very soon,” said Mervin Alexander.//Deccanchronicle.com 26.12.13,chennai//

India Post’s COD services – Implementation failed  ::

India  Post implemented various COD services namely Business Parcel COD (BP-COD),  Express Parcel COD (EP-COD) and Speed Post COD (SP-COD) without much planning.  In the root level it can see very clearly that the implementation of COD services was a big failure in all respect especially in technological side. The BP-COD and EP-COD services had been started on 02/12/2013 from 20 offices across the country but the stable version of software have been released on 10/12/2013 after making modifications in the raw form of software released on 29/11/2013.  The COD articles have been booking from various parts of the country since 02/12/2013 but the delivery works has not yet been started in most of the Post Offices due to software problems.    Software support from the part of CEPT is very poor in the case of Parcel Net (Update 9) upgradation.
The field units are struggling with error generating or partially made software. At the same time most of the employees of India Post are unaware of this new services, so some people are treated this article as VP and collected MO commission from addressee some others delivered the articles without collecting the amount.  Some RMS offices have sent these articles as RP to Post Offices and the Post Office staffs have delivered the same as parcel.  Various feedbacks are getting from the field staffs in this regards especially from System Administrators who implement the  technology in Post Offices.  The COD services were implemented without making much test in the software level and without much education among employees.    The  COD services were the most awaited service of India Post. This service is a serious threat to all private courier companies if it succeeds in its implementation, so they are eagerly watching its implementation.  On the other side online shopping giants are also giving more attention to COD service of India Post for spreading their business to rural areas. Our expectations were already shared in the older post India Post to revolutionize online market reach So hindrance happened in the implementation process should be overcome at any cost.  Even though this is an implementation stage, the traffic of COD articles from various sources shows the acceptance of this COD services by various vendors.  India Post will have to work hard for satisfying both consigners and consignees.  Top authorities of India Post should interfere in the implementation process especially in software development centres to issue solution for various issues reported by the field units.  So many issues are there even after the release of solution on 17/12/2013.courtesy ://postbankofindia.blogspot.in//

e – mail security policy coming soon:-

THIRUVANANTHPURAM: Seeking to ensure cybersecurity and keep government documents away from hackers, the government is working on an email security policy.  The policy will be announced shortly, Minister of State for Communications and IT Milind Deora said. All public sector employees in the country would be brought on the government domain of National Informatics Centre (NIC) as part of the policy, he told a press meet here.   "Cybercrimes are linked not just to any particular institution, state or nation. We have to tackle it with institutional capacities and with the co-operation of local police and international agencies," Deora said.  "As part of the National Cyber Security Policy, we are trying to create a new email policy for government employees. It will make them move away from foreign email services like Gmail and bring onto nic.in, the government's email domain managed by NIC," he said.   Since the country had its own 'cloud', there was no reason for people to depend on foreign services, he said.   Deora, who had a discussion with the officials of BSNL, Postal and C-Dac here, said the ministry was planning to allot three new post offices and a training centre for post office staff here..   //PTI //

Rural Postal Life Insurance Policy

For the Rural populace of India the Department of Posts has an insurance scheme called Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI). Giving this information in written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabhaon 13/12/2013, Shri Kapil Sibal, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, said that following steps have been taken to promote and popularize postal life insurance policy in the rural areas:
(i)            Rural PLI processing work has been decentralized to Divisional level:-  Bringing decision making closer to the common man thereby expediting sanction of loans, revival of lapsed policies and  maturity claims.  This allows contingent needs of the people to be met easily.
(ii)           Facilitating payment of premia through Post Offices anywhere in the country regardless of where the policy was issued without any transfer of policy being required.
(iii)         Facility for payment of premium online through www.epostoffice.gov.in.
(iv)        Opportunity to work as Rural PLI Agent:-  Providing common man, especially  Aanganwadiworkers, un-employed youth, Self Help Groups, etc. with additional source of income by engaging them as Direct Agents under Rural Postal Life Insurance Scheme. Incentive structure for RPLI business has been made attractive i.e. 10% of premium in the first year and subsequently 2.5% of premium income till policy lasts.
(v)           Higher Sum Assured:-  For providing opportunity for financial security in line with increasing requirements of the people, the maximum sum assured limit has been raised  for RPLI from Rs. 3 lacs to Rs. 5lacs
(vi)         A Toll free number (18001805232/ 155232) has been operationalized and publicized for inquiries and grievance settlement. People from anywhere in the country can call and get their problems settled.
(vii)        Training to Rural PLI marketing staff i.e. GDS staff, Direct Agents and Departmental employees is being imparted to improve their marketing skills.
(viii)      Facility of Payment of outstanding premia of policy on installments basis.
(ix)         Technology/IT initiative:-  The technological initiatives being undertaken for Rural Postal Life Insurance are :
(a)              Development of Centralized software for improved after sales service for all RPLI customers.
(b)             Development of Web and mobile portal for customers to allow seamless issue of insurance policies and making online payments under Financial Services Integration plan of the Department.
(c)              Call centre for handling customer services.
(d)             Real time updating of premium payments.
(e)              Centralized monitoring of grievances.
(f)            Setting up of 809 Central Processing Centres (CPCs) at all Head Post Offices in the country for providing single window for handling of insurance proposals, service requests and claims for RPLI customers.
