Department of Posts launches ‘Express Parcel’ and ‘Business    Parcel’ Services
The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications & IT, here today launched an ‘Express Parcel’ service. The service was launched by Smt. P. Gopinath, Secretary, Department of Posts, at a function organized at New Delhi G.P.O.

Speaking on the occasion Smt. Gopinath said that ‘Express Parcel’ is a premium parcel service for retail as well as bulk customers. It offered time bound, safe and secure home delivery of parcels. To have minimal transit time these parcels will be given airlift wherever needed. Bulk customers would also have an economical option of surface transported ‘Business Parcel’.

These two new parcel services aim to promote the e-commerce market in India by offering reliable and cost efficient delivery solutions. Whereas ‘Express Parcel’ is an air mail service providing guaranteed time bound delivery of parcels, ‘Business Parcel’ will provide fast, secure and cost efficient transmission of parcels through surface. These services will have ‘Cash on Delivery’ facility which has become a pre-requisite today for e-commerce parcels.

Though ‘Business Parcels’ will have a nationwide coverage, the ‘Express Parcel’ service will initially be available between 20 identified cities: Agra, Banglore, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Delhi (NCR), Patna, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indoor, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Mumbai, Pune, Parwanoo, Shillong, Surat and Thiruvanthapuram. This service will be expanded nationwide in phased manner. Bothe these services are being offered at a very attractive tariff, said Smt. Gopinath.  // PTI news//

AIDS on STAMPS :-
World AIDS day (December 01st)
AIDS is a disease of the modern world, arousing in people the same fear as the plague in the Middle Ages did. The name is short for Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome - weakened immune system - caused by HIV human immunodeficiency virus. The virus destroys the cells, which play a central role in the protection of body against disease-causing microorganisms thus disposing it to infections that healthy people seldom contract. Infection with HIV does not necessarily mean that a person has AIDS. Studies show that one half of the people who have HIV infection develop AIDS and die. With no effective cure for AIDS on the horizon, it is important to prevent the occurrence of HIV infection. If the search for vaccine and cure is the work of scientists, prevention is something where we can all take part. Health officials and many other organisations established for the promotion of AIDS awareness teach safe behaviours. The seriousness of the problem is best demonstrated by the proclamation of a special World AIDS Day (1st December) to promote AIDS awareness among people.
The  STAMPS on the following link  depicts a terrestrial globe symbolising the presence of the disease all around the world regardless the race, age or sex. The Red Ribbon - an international symbol of AIDS awareness - connects continents, reminding people of the presence and prevalence of AIDS, and promoting AIDS awareness. Each individual can avoid this disease only by being very careful.

“ASEERVACHANAM “ -  SCHEME TO BE EXTENDED TO MAJOR TEMPLES IN A.P :-
HYDERABAD: Encouraged by the good response to the scheme, the postal department has decided to extend its facility of delivering prasadam to devotees who send contributions to temples via money order from the existing TTD-run temples to many more in the state. At present, devotees who send their monetary contributions to Tirumala through money order receive small packets containing 'Akshatahlu' (turmeric-mixed rice grains), pasupu (turmeric), kumkum and a photograph of the deity. The prasadam is kept at the Tirumala post office from where it is dispatched to the address of the devotees who send the contributions through the money order in what is called the 'Aseervachanam' scheme. The delivery of the prasadam takes place in about a week after the money order is sent. This scheme was launched in August this year and has seen about 30,000 money orders delivered to Lord Venkateswara of Tirumala so far.  Now, the scheme is to be extended to many more temples. "We have received a tremendous response to the 'Aseervachanam' scheme from devotees in AP and Karnataka. We approached the endowments department to implement the scheme in other major temples and the latter issued specific orders to top officers of various temples to implement the scheme in coordination with India Post," chief postmaster general, A P circle, B V Sudhakar told TOI. The scheme will be extended to other temples from December 1, he said.

The major temples where the 'Aseervachanam' scheme is to be implemented include Durga Malleswara temple (Vijayawada), Varaha Narasimha temple (Simhachalam), Bramarambha Mallikarjuna temple (Srisailam), Veera Venkata Satyanarayana (Annavaram), Seetha Ramachandra (Bhadrachalam), Vinayaka (Kanipakam), Lakshmi Narasimham swamy (Yadagirigutta), Suryadeva (Arasavilli), Sri Kurmam (Srikakulam), Kaleswara swamy (Karimnagar), Narasimha swamy (Ahobilam) and others., Shiva temple (Mahanandi), Bheemeswara (Draksharamam), Ksheera Ramalingeswara swamy (Palkol), Raja Rajeswari temple (Vemulawada), Narasimha temple (Kadiri), Veera Brahmendra swamy (Yaganti) and Venkateswara swamy (Dwaraka Tirumala).// times of india//
