Detention of Post Parcel by Customs in India:

 1.      Post Parcel has been detained by Customs since the value of the contents exceeds permissible limit of Rs.2000/-. The dutiable articles, intended for personal use, imported by post or air, are restricted subject to value limit of Rs.2000/-(CIF), as per the conditions laid down under the CTH 9804 under the clause 3(1)(i) of Foreign Trade (Exemption from application of Rules in certain cases) order, 1993. In view of the above restriction the goods having value more than Rs.2000/-(CIF) become restricted for import and the same are liable for confiscation under Section 111 (d) of the Customs Act, 1962 and the Importer is liable for penalty under Section 112(a)(i) of the Customs Act, 1962.

2.      Bonafide gifts upto a value limit of Rs.10000/- imported by Post are allowed free of duty under Notfn No.171/93 – Cus. Dated 16.09.1993 (as amended). Items imported as gift are restricted for importation under Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation ) Act, 1992. The gift articles exceeding limit of Rs.10000/- are leviable to duty @ 41.492%.

3.      Bonafide commercial samples and proto types upto a value of Rs.10000/- are also allowed free of duty under Notfn No.154/1994 dated 13/07/1994 (as amended), subject to the condition that the said goods have been supplied free of charge.

4.      The goods intended to be imported other than articles for personal use and gift are chargeable to duty under respective chapter heading, subject to production of IEC No. and other relevant documents required for such import. Persons importing goods for personal use and the goods not connected with trade or manufacture or agriculture, are exempt from IEC code. In case the customs duty payable is not more than Rs.100/- the same is exempt vide Notfn No.21/2002-Cus, dated 01.03.2002 (as amended).

5.      The post parcel containing Medicine / Chemicals shall be released only after obtaining a NOC (No Objection Certificate) from Drug Controller / Chemical Examiner, Addl. Drug Controller available in the office.

TCS has bagged a six-year contract from the Department of Posts (DoP) worth over Rs 1,100 crore :

MUMBAI: Tata Consultancy Services ( TCS) today (29.05.2013) said it has bagged a six-year contract from the Department of Posts (DoP) worth over Rs1,100 crore. The end-to-end IT modernisationprogramme to be implemented by TCS will equip India Post with modern technologies and systems to enable it to provide services to customers in an effective manner, TCS said in a statement.

The scope of the project, dubbed India Post 2012, includes developing and supporting mail, finance and accounts, HR, and customer interaction management solutions for all channels including Rural ICT platform.

Under the deal, TCS will also manage data migration, infrastructure, Service Level Agreement (SLA), call centre and centralised24x7 service desk operation for DoP, it said.

The end-to-end security solutions, Enterprise Management System (EMS) and over all integration for entire system is the responsibility of core system integrator (CSI), the statement said.

"India Post has a vision of being a technology-enabled self-reliant market leader and is looking to move from a government service provider to a customer-enabled service provider where the customer will be the focus of multifarious service delivery platforms," DoP Secretary P Gopinath said.

Increased urbanisation, demand for financial services, increased funding by the government for the weaker sections and the rural sector have opened up new opportunities for India Post, which has necessitated development of new processes and supporting technology.

"The core system integrator project is about service delivery transformation through a technology-led, service- oriented approach to offer world class delivery of postal services to Indian citizens," TCS vice president and global head (government industry solutions unit) TanmoyChakrabarty said.

Department of Posts ordered abolition of 17093 posts of various cadres. Out of which about 7500 posts were related to Postmen & MTS. AIPE Union Postmen & MSE/Gr. ‘D’ filed a case No. 1736/21.05.13 in CAT (P.B) Delhi along with NUPE Postmen & MTS and AIPEU GDS (NFPE). The Hon’ble CAT Delhi has granted stay against the abolition of posts of Postmen & MTS.

Next date of hearing is fixed as 11.6.2013.

Income Tax Department Sent Letters Today to Another Batch of 35,000 Non-Filers;

As part of its ongoing initiative, the Income Tax Department has sent today i.e. 27th May, 2013 letters to another batch of 35,000 non-filers.  These persons were part of around 12 lakh non-filers identified as a result of data matching exercise. With this latest batch, the IT Department has now issued letters in 1,75,000 high priority cases.        The response to this initiative has been very encouraging and a large number of taxpayers have paid taxes and filed Income tax Returns. A compliance management cell has been set-up to monitor return filing and tax payment of the target segment. 100 – years of   “ PRADHAMANDHRA MAHASABHA” –Special Postal Cover Released : 
BAPATLA (Guntur)   :25.MAY 2013: Recalling the sacrifices made by Telugu stalwarts (strong) of yesteryears (past), Union minister of state for petroleum Smt. Panabaka Lakshmi on Friday said a separate state for Telugu people was realised only because of the dedication of freedom fighters of the region. She said people should be proud of having a separate state for Telugu speaking population as Telugu is considered as the sweetest language in the country. She said the Pradhamandhra Mahasabha (first conference of Andhras) held in Bapatla in 1913 sowed the seeds for the movement for a separate state.

The first meeting of Pradhamandhra Mahasabha held over two days between May 26 and 27 about 100 years ago.  Commemorating the first meeting was a privilege for all the Telugu speaking people.

   5. In the window opened  enter the details and click on button 'Register'
       a)  In case the details entered are matching with data in CGHS Data base a system generated one time 'pass word' will be sent to the registered mobile phone by SMS 
        b) If , there is a message “details for selected beneficiary not found” Please check the details entered  or contact CMO i/c of CGHS Wellness Centre for correction of Data / Mobile Phone number in the Data base
    6. Once the pass word is received, go back to Beneficiary sign in page and login using password
    7.Click on button 'Beneficiary Medical History' and view details.

Dearness Allowance as Dearness Pay 4384 . SARDAR BALWINDER SINGH BHUNDAR (a) whether the earlier Pay Commissions for Central Government Employees had recommended that a certain percentage of Dearness Allowance to be treated as Dearness Pay; (b) if so, the details thereof; and (c) by when the salaried class as well as pensioners are likely to be benefited so as to overcome the hardship being faced by them to maintain their day-to-day household expenses?

Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance (E & FS) (Shri Namo Narain Meena) (a)&(b) The 5th Pay Commission had recommended that Dearness Allowance should be converted into Dearness Pay each time the Consumer Price Index increases by 50% over the base index used by the last pay Commission. Accordingly the Government issued orders on 27.02.2004 for merging of 50% of the DA with the basic pay w.e.f.01.04.2004. (c) The 6th Central Pay Commission had recommended not to merge Dearness Allowance with basic pay at any stage. Government has accepted this recommendation vide Resolution dated 29.08.2008. Hence the question to merge DA with basic pay does not arise. However, the rate of DA is being revised at periodic intervals

Restructuring of the Income Tax Department 

 The Union Cabinet today approved the proposal for creation of 20,751 additional posts in the Income Tax Department in various cadres that is 1349 additional posts in the IRS cadre and 19,402 additional posts in the non-IRS cadres. This will help the Income Tax Department collect increased revenue and provide better tax payers services. 

 An additional expenditure of Rs. 449.71 crore per annum is likely to be incurred on creation of additional posts and upgradation of some existing posts. This additional expenditure would be more than compensated by the increased revenue of more than Rs. 25,000 crore per annum proposed to be generated as a result of this exercise.

India Posts  issued a special cover on former president Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy to mark his 100th birth anniversary on Sunday.

Union minister of state for  communications and information technology Smt. Killi Kruparani said: “Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy was one of the greatest leaders from Andhra Pradesh, who held the highest office of the country.”

The special cover was released at a function at Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad on May 19.

            సంజీవరెడ్డి నిజాయితీని తెలియజేసే ఒక సంఘటన: సంయుక్త మద్రాసు రాష్ట్రంలో మంత్రిగా ఉన్నపుడు, ఒక కాంట్రాక్టరు ఒక ఉత్తరంతో ఆయన వద్దకు వచ్చాడు. సంజీవరెడ్డి ఆప్తమిత్రుడి వద్దనుండి తెచ్చిన ఉత్తరం అది. దాన్ని ఆయన అందుకున్నాడుగాని, చించి చూడలేదు. కాంట్రాక్టరుతో ఇలా అన్నాడు. ·                    ఎమర్జెన్సీ తరువాత 1977 లో జరిగిన సార్వత్రిక ఎన్నికలలో దేశమంతటా జనతాపార్టీ ప్రభంజనం వీచి, కాంగ్రెసు చిత్తుగా ఓడిపోగా, ఆంధ్ర ప్రదేశ్ లో మాత్రం మొత్తం 42 స్థానాలకుగాను, జనతాపార్టీ 41 స్థానాల్లో ఓడిపోయి, ఒకే ఒక్క స్థానం గెలుచుకుంది. గెలిచిన ఆ ఒక్క జనతాపార్టీ వ్యక్తీ, సంజీవరెడ్డియే!

·                    లోక్‌సభ సభాపతిగా రెండు సార్లు ఎన్నికై, రెండుసార్లూ రాష్ట్రపతిగా పోటీ చేసేందుకై రాజీనామా చేసాడు. మొదటిసారి రాష్ట్రపతిగా ఓడిపోగా, రెండోసారి గెలిచాడు.

·                    ఇప్పటివరకు రాష్ట్రపతిగా చేసినవారిలో సంజీవరెడ్డి నిర్విరోధంగా ఎన్నికయిన ఏకైక రాష్ట్రపతి.

·                    1969 లో కాంగ్రెసు పార్టీ ఆధికారిక అభ్యర్థిగా పోటీ చేసిన సంజీవరెడ్డికి వ్యతిరేకంగా ఆత్మ ప్రబోధానుసారం ఓటు వెయ్యమనిఇందిరా గాంధీ తన పార్టీ వారిని ఆదేశించింది. పార్టీలో తన వ్యతిరేకుల ఆటకట్టించేందుకు ఇందిరా గాంధీ వేసిన ఎత్తు ఇది. ఫలితంగా ప్రతిపక్ష మద్దతు కూడా గల వి.వి.గిరి, సంజీవ రెడ్డి ని ఓడించి రాష్ట్రపతి అయ్యాడు. అనంతరం కాంగ్రెసు పార్టీ చీలిపోయింది.

·                    పుట్టపర్తి సాయిబాబాను దర్శించని అతికొద్ది మంది రాజకీయ నాయకుల్లో సంజీవరెడ్డి ఒకడు.

·                    సంజీవరెడ్డి పేరిట శ్రీశైలం ప్రాజెక్టు కు నీలం సంజీవరెడ్డి సాగర్ ప్రాజెక్టు అని పేరుపెట్టారు.

·                    1958 లో శ్రీవేంకటేశ్వర విశ్వవిద్యాలయం ఆయనకు గౌరవ డాక్టరేటు బహూకరించింది.
