POSTMASTERS BEWARE OF DATA ENTRY MODULE

CBI case against Srikakulam ex-postal employee

A fraud case has been registered against a former postal assistant of the Tekkali Head Post Office, in Srikakulam Postal Division, by the Visakhapatnam Branch of the CBI.
The accused K. Panduranga Rao, while working as postal assistant/assistant post master/post master at the Tekkali HPO between June 12, 2009, and October 19, 2011, had committed financial irregularities to the tune of Rs.25,54,000 in 11 savings bank accounts, according to a statement issued by CBI Deputy Inspector-General G. Nageswara Rao on Thursday.
It was alleged that Panduranga Rao used to fraudulently delete the original savings bank accounts withdrawal entries from the ‘Sanchay Post Module’ data saved in the computer system and increase the balance amounts lying in the accounts of the depositors. He subsequently used to fraudulently withdraw the increased amounts from the respective savings bank accounts by forging the signatures of the depositors on the withdrawal savings bank-7 vouchers.
Thus, he caused a wrongful loss of Rs.25,54,000 to the Postal Department by tampering/ manipulating the computer data pertaining to 11 savings bank accounts and caused wrongful gain to himself by abusing his official position. The CBI also searched the house of Panduranga Rao, who is now under suspension, Mr. Nageswara Rao said.
